How to Apply for a Course

Congratulations on your decision to travel to Australia for the study adventure of a lifetime! The first steps are the most important in deciding the direction you wish to head by choosing the right course and the right educational institute.

Contact the AA Education Network to register with us and we will help you through this process with our many free student services.

It is our recommendation that you apply EARLY for your course to ensure the entire process is timely and smooth – preferably three to four months in advance.

Be sure to fully investigate all of your options, rather than jumping in to the first course that comes up. For instance, research the web, look at the university websites, ask questions and send emails to informed people who can help. Take into consideration factors such as entry requirements and whether you meet them, study fees, location, academic reputation, number of students, testimonials, electives on offer, successful graduates, industry recommendations and lifestyle factors such as location, transport and climate.

All of these factors add up to the experience you will have in Australia and the value of what you will have when you leave.

Once you have made your choice you must approach the individual institute for an entry process. Every institute in Australia has a specific system however they are all mainly quite similar – be sure to fully know and understand the process for your chosen institute by reading the instructions on their website, and only use this information as a guide.

The next step is to get a copy of the application form for entry into the course you have chosen. Individual institutions usually include their application fees for international students on their websites, or alternatively you may be able to get a form mailed to your home address. You may need to attach additional forms such as identification, academic transcripts and English test results – be that TOEFL, CULT or IELTS. Sometimes an administrative processing fee must be paid with your application, which you can attach or arrange to be paid with a cash transfer.

Once you have submitted your forms and supporting documents, be sure to contact the institution to make sure they have arrived with everything needed. Following this, your forms will undergo a brief assessment period of 1 week to a month, during which time the institution will determine whether you will be accepted into the course.

Notification from the institution will either confirm you have been accepted, ask for additional documentation (a conditional offer) or inform you that you have been unsuccessful. If successful, you have a period of time to accept your offer and pay for your university fees.
