South Australia
South Australia Information
Australia’s fourth largest and its’ driest state, South Australia is famous for its’ diverse culture, interest in the arts and its’ varied landscape. Whether you’re intrigued by the bright lights and buzz of Adelaide or prefer to relax in the great outdoors, South Australia has something to offer everyone.
Adelaide, South Australia’s capital city, is a safe, clean city with lots to explore and discover. With the city being only one square mile, it is a compact city. Home to the South Australian Museum, housing the largest collection of Aboriginal relics in the world, and hosting its ever-popular Festival of Arts, Adelaide is an artistic city. Food lovers can enjoy many wonderful restaurants and find fresh fruit and vegetables at the Adelaide Central Market.
If you’re excited about seeing some of Australia’s native wildlife, why not consider visiting nearby Kangaroo Island. Kangaroo Island is home to both Flinders Chase National Park and Seal Bay Conservation Park. Hop across to the island and you can see rare Australian sea lions, wallabies, kangaroos, koalas, platypus and more. The island is also populated with beautiful flora and gorgeous beaches. If visiting Kangaroo Island, just be sure to remember to bring your camera along.
Additionally, South Australia is home to Australia’s picturesque wine region, The Barossa. Just an hour drive from Adelaide, you can enjoy wine tasting at over fifty different wineries.
Moving further away from the coast, and Adelaide, you will enter the famous Australian Outback and Flinders Ranges. Australia’s most wide-ranging mountain chain, Flinders Ranges stretches across three hundred miles. Although the area is hot, dry and barren, it is a beautiful sight to see. While there, you might just come across yellow-footed rock wallabies, western gray kangaroos or see authentic aboriginal rock art.
With a temperate climate along the coast and a drier, hotter climate further north, you’ll find people enjoying the great outdoors or seeking underground refuge, from the harsh heat, such as in Coober Pedy.
Regardless of what you prefer, whether it be the ocean, bright lights, museums, National Parks and wildlife or exploring the great Outback, South Australia’s diversity and beauty offers something for every visitor.
